Χρησιμοποιώ μια παλαιότερη φωτογραφία γιατί δεν έχω σκοπό να γκρινιάξω. Η άνοιξη ήρθε και ελπίζω σε ευχάριστες μόνο καταχωρήσεις στο ημερολόγιο του Αυγοδάρτη.
Αυτή τη φορά οι σταγόνες είχαν ενωθεί σχηματίζοντας μια λιμνούλα. Επισκέφθηκα το αγαπημένο μου συνεργείο και ο υπαίτος εντοπίστηκε: το λαστιχάκι (O-ring) του αισθητήρα θέσεως των ταχυτήτων.



I am using an older photo because I do not intend to make a fuss about it. Spring is here and I hope to happier entries in the Urban Growlerilla's Log.
So this time the drops were forming a small pool. I went to the shop and the leak was from the o-ring in the gear position sensor.

Με το IRTA test να έχει ολοκληρωθεί και τις ημέρες να κυλάνε αργά ως την 8η Απριλίου από την ανυπομονησία, παραπέμπω σε ένα βίντεο με τα καλύτερα του 2011, που δείχνει ότι και το αργό έχει τα γούστα του..

With the IRTA test now completed, the days to the first race of the season in April the 8th roll slowly for the impatient. But as the preceding video (2011 season) shows, slow can be interesting..

Γιατί μόνο ο Stoner μπορούσε να την "πάει"; Ήταν στ'αλήθεια "μπετονιέρα" η GP11; Μήπως είμαι πιο γρήγορος και από τους δυο;
Όσοι βασανίζονται από τέτοια ερωτήματα και βρίσκανε τις πόρτες που οδηγούν στις απαντήσεις κλειστές, έχουν μια μοναδική ευκαιρία να λυτρωθούν από την απορία. Μια Desmosedici GP10 και μια GP11 πρόκειται να εκποιηθούν στο πριγκηπάτο του Μονακό.
Συγκεκριμένα πρόκειται για την GP10 του Casey Stoner, η οποία συναρμολογήθηκε το Δεκέμβριο του 2009, συμμετείχε στα χειμερινά τεστ και νίκησε στον αγώνα του Ρhillip Island. Επίσης πήρε την pole postition σε Qatar, Phillip Island και Valencia. Μόλις 4.232χλμ.

Παρά το γεγονός ότι ο Stoner δεν είναι από αυτούς που κάνουν πολλούς γύρους στις δοκιμές, η GP11 του Valentino Rossi έχει ακόμη λιγότερα χιλιόμετρα, 2.342 (αριθμολόγοι προσοχή! τα ίδια ψηφία στα χιλιόμετρα). Ίσως επειδή τη δοκίμασε αρκετά για να καταλήξει στο συμπέρασμα ότι χρειάζεται κάτι άλλο (μια GP11.1, μια GP12beta κτλ). Αυτή η GP11 λοιπόν συναρμολογήθηκε το Δεκέμβριο του 2010, χρησιμοποιήθηκε στις χειμερινές δοκιμές και είναι αυτή με την οποία ο Rossi πήρε την 3η θέση στον αγώνα του Le Mans.
Στην ίδια δημοπρασία θα εκποιηθεί και η συλλογή Saltarelli η οποία αποτελειται από ιστορικές μοτοσυκλέτες της Ducati. Για να δείτε τη συλλογή κλικ εδώ.

Why only Stoner could ride the 800cc Desmosedicis? Was really the GP11 as agile as a cement mixer? Am I faster than both of them?
For those asking questions whose answers are hidden, there is a unique opportunity to redeem themselves and unlock the truth.A Desmosedici GP10 and GP11 are about to be auctioned in Monaco.
The GP10 is a Casey Stoner bike, built in Decenber 2009, was ridden in the winter tests and won the Ρhillip Island race. Also it took the pole postition in Qatar, Phillip Island and Valencia. And all that in 4232km.
Despite the fact that Stoner does not ride that much in practice and test sessions, Rossi's GP11 was ridden for just 2342km (same digits, diffrent number). Maybe that is what it took to decide he needs something else (a GP11.1, a GP12beta and so on).
This GP11 was built in December 2010, was ridden in the winter tests and took the 3rd place in the Le Mans race.
In the same auction the Saltarelli collection of historic Ducati motorcycles will be offered, too.

Εαρινή Ισημερία σήμερα, το καλοκαίρι είναι πιο κοντά.. Μουλιάσαμε από τη βροχή, μούλιασε το γκαράζ στο λάδι (περισσότερα σ'αυτό αργότερα), άντε να ευχαριστηθούμε καμμιά μοτο-βόλτα..



It is the Spring Equinox today (for the northern hemisphere that is) and the summer is closer than it appears! We soaked in the rain, the garage floor soaked in oil (later more on that), it is time to start enjoying the rides..

I am sipping my Nescafe Frappe and looking for information about the NessCafe. It is a Cafe Racer based on the new Victory's motorcycle, the Judge, created by Zack Ness (grandson of Arlen Ness), for the 2012 New York City International Motorcycle Show. Ο κινηματογράφος έχει συχνά χρησιμοποιήσει τη μοτοσυκλέτα για να εκφράσει την ελευθερία, αλλά υπάρχει μια σκηνή που τα έχει καταφέρει καλύτερα από κάθε άλλη , αν και η προσπάθεια δεν ήταν επιτυχής.
Στην ταινία The Great Escape (1963) ο Cpt. Hilts "The Cooler King" , τον οποίο υποδύεται ο Steve McQueen, προσπαθεί να ξεφύγει από τους Γερμανούς ναζί διώκτες του, έχοντας κλέψει μια γερμανική μοτοσυκλέτα. Είναι η διάσημη σκηνή στην οποία πηδά το φράχτη με το συρματόπλεγμα.
Στη πραγματικότητα η μοτοσυκλέτα είναι μια Triumph Thunderbird του 1962 και το άλμα δεν το κάνει ο ίδιος, αλλά ο Bud Ekins. Ο McQueen, δεινός αναβάτης ο ίδιος, προσπάθησε ανεπιτυχώς να κάνει το άλμα, και στην σκηνή της ταινίας είναι ένας από τους διώκτες του... εαυτού του!

In cinema often the motorcycle has been used to demonstrate freedom, but there is one scene that is better than any other in this, even though it was not enough for the hero to be free.
In the movie The Great Escape (1963) Cpt. Hilts "The Cooler King" , played by Steve McQueen, is trying to get away from the German nazis , riding one of their motorcycles. It is the scene with the famous wire fence jump.
In reality the motorcycle is a Triumph Thunderbird of 1962 and he is not making the jump, but Bud Ekins. McQueen, a highly skilled rider himself, tried unsuccesfully to make the jump. Actually in this scene he is one of the riders who chase... himself!

Φαντάζομαι η πρώτη που έρχεται στο μυαλό όταν σκέφτεται κάποιος ταινία/μοτοσυκλέτα/Tom Cruise είναι η Kawasaki GPZ του Top Gun . Μιας και πρόκειται να ακολουθήσουν και άλλες "εβδομάδες" σχετικές με τις ταινίες και τις μοτοσυκλέτες, αυτή τη φορά διάλεξα τη μοτοσυκλέτα ενός μυστικού πράκτορα. Στην ταινία Knight and Day (2010), ο Roy Miller (Tom Cruise)καβαλάει μια Ducati Hypermotard στην Ισπανία, ή μήπως όχι; Σύμφωνα με την είδηση που δημοσιεύθηκε εδώ και εδώ (και όχι μόνο) στις επικίνδυνες σκηνές δράσης χρησιμοποιήθηκε η Aprilia SXV550 μεταμφιεσμένη σε Hypermotard. Ο λόγος ήταν -πιθανόν- πως καθώς η Aprilia είναι στην πραγματικότητα μια αγωνιστική μοτοσυκλέτα, είναι ελαφρύτερη και πιο κατάλληλη για τις επικίνδυνες σκηνές (stunts).



I guess when it comes to Tom Cruise and motorcycles in the movies, the first one to come in mind is the Kawasaki GPZ in the Top Gun . Since there are more "movie weeks" to come, I chose a secret agent's bike this time. In the movie Knight and Day (2010), Roy Miller (Tom Cruise) is riding a Ducati Hypermotard in Spain, or is he? According to news found here and here (and not only there) for the stunt scenes the bike ridden was an Aprilia SXV550 disguised to look like a Hypermotard. The reason was -probably- the Aprilia being a race bike practically, is lighter and more appropriate for the stunt job.

Όταν κάνεις μια ταινία που η πλοκή της εξελίσσεται στο παρελθόν, πρέπει τα σκηνικά και τα αντικείμενα που χρησιμοποιείς να ταιριάζουν με την περίοδο στην οποία αναφέρεσαι. Ή στην περίπτωση που κάνεις ταινία ένα ήρωα των κόμικ, αρκεί να φαίνονται σωστά.
Στην ταινία Captain America: The First Avenger(2011) εμφανίζεται μια σειρά από εξαιρετικά καλοσχεδιασμένα οχήματα -αναμεσά τους και οι μοτοσυκλέτες των κακών. Αν σας αρέσουν τα οχήματα της HYDRA, μπορείτε να βρείτε εδώ μια πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα συνεντευξη του σχεδιαστή.
Ο πρωταγωνιστής, ο υπερήρωας ο ίδιος όμως, έχει και αυτός μια μοτοσυκλέτα. Περισσότερα για το πως επιλέχθηκε η Harley Davidson Cross Bones και μετατράπηκε, ώστε να μοιάζει με την WLA του ΒΠΠ, θα βρείτε στο βίντεο που ακολουθεί.



When the story of your movie refers to the past, everything you use must be period correct. Or in the case you are making a movie with a comic super hero, it is ok to seem period correct.
In the movie Captain America: The First Avenger(2011) a series of excellently designed vehicles ia taking part -the bad guys' motorcycles are among them. If you like the HYDRA vehicles, theirs designer interview can be found here and it is highly recommended.
Captain America, the super hero himself, is also riding a motorcycle. Find out more about why the Harley Davidson Cross Bones was chosen, and how it was modified to look like a WWII HD WLA, in the prceding video.

Στην ταινία Lara Croft: Tomb Raider(2001) δεν είναι έυκολο να καταλάβεις ποιά είναι η μοτοσυκλέτα που μεταφέρει την πρωταγωνίστρια στη δημοπρασία και πρωταγωνιστεί στη σκηνή του γκαράζ. Είναι δικύλινδρη, αλήτικη, με πλαίσιο χωροδικτύωμα, ίσιο τιμόνι και εξατμίσεις στην ουρά. Καβαλούσε η Λάρα Super Duke; Όχι, όταν προβλήθηκε η ταινία είχαμε δει μόνο το πρωτότυπο και το αγωνιστικό Adventure.
Πρόκειται για μια Yamaha TRX850 αρκούντως περιποιημένη ώστε να δείχνει αγνώριστη, παρά το γεγονός ότι τα βασικά της στοιχεία (πλαίσιο, κινητήρας, ψαλίδι και πηρούνι) δεν έχουν αλλάξει. Τη διαφορά κάνουν οι συμπαγείς ζάντες, το stealth βάψιμο, και το σύνολο ρεζερβουάρ, σέλα, ουρά που σε συνδυασμό με το πλαίσιο οδηγούν στο να σκεφτείς ότι πρόκειται για Ducati Monster, ώσπου να πατήσεις το pause. Έχει και μανιβέλα!





In the movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider(2001) it is not easy to understand which bike takes Lara to the auction and does the blockbuster-material moves in the garage scene. It is a wild two cylinder with trellis frame, straight handlebars and underseat pipes. Was Lara riding the Super Duke? No by the time the movie went to the theaters we only new of the concept and the racing Adventure LC8.
She is riding a Yamaha TRX850, modified enough not to be recognised instantly, beside the fact that its main parts (frame, engine, fork and swingarm) are stock looking. It could be the solid rims and the stealth look. Combine the tank shape with the tail and the frame and it is easy to believe you just saw a Ducati Monster. Untill you press the pause button that is. And while there check out the kickstarter!

Όταν στην ταινία σου χρειάζεσαι μια μοτοσυκλέτα, πρέπει να να λάβεις υπόψη σου πολλούς παράγοντες. Για αρχή το μία είναι σχετικό. Το πόσες ακριβώς χρειάζεσαι σχετίζεται με τον αριθμό των σκηνών στις οποίες συμμετέχουν και με το ρόλο τους εκεί. Είναι σταθμευμένη ή πρωταγωνιστεί σε ένα κυνηγητό; Χωράει στις παλλέτες για να μεταφερθεί με αεροπλάνο προς και από την τοποθεσία του γυρίσματος; Και το σημαντικότερο: Θα παίρνει κάθε φορά μπροστά; Οι καθυστερήσεις κοστίζουν(έτσι ακούω τουλάχιστον).
Με όλα τα παραπάνω είναι ίσως απρόσμενη η πρόταση του Justin Kell (Glory Motor Works) στον σκηνοθέτη της ταινίας David Fincher. Αντί να επιλέξει μια σύγχρονη μοτοσυκλέτα, είπε στο BikeExif, σκέφτηκε ότι η Lisbeth Salander θα είχε μια μοτοσυκλέτα που θα αντιστοιχούσε στα σφιχτά οικονομικά της ως νεαρή, θα ήταν φροντισμένη όμως με τρόπο που να αντανακλά την προσωπικότητα της. Επιλέχθηκε λοιπόν μια Honda από τα τέλη της δεκαετίας του 1960(!), η CL350, φροντισμένη όμως τόσο εμφανισιακά, όσο και μηχανικά για να ανταπεξέλθει στις κακουχίες του γυρίσματος, αλλά και να συμμετάσχει στην εκπαίδευση της πρωταγωνίστριας.

When you need a motorcycle for your movie, there are a lot to take account of. To start with one depends on how you count them. The viewer watches one but the crew needs more. How many exactly depends on the number of the scenes they appear in and their part there. Does she fills the screen or does she take part in a chase? Is she the right size for the pallets so as to be shipped on location and back? And the most important: Will it start every single time? Time is money on the set (at least that is what I hear).
Considering all that you do not really expect which bike Justin Kell (Glory Motor Works) proposed to the film director, David Fincher. Instead of choosing a modern bike, he told BikeExif, he thought that Lisbeth Salander would have an inexpensive older bike that would be customized to fit her personality and her limited financial recourses. So a Honda of the late 60's(!), the CL350, was chosen, but she received good care looks-wise and mechanically, in order to fill the demands of a film shooting, and the riding training of Ronney Mara.
